Sephora Collection Super Nourishing Lip Balm

sephora2

This was another product I brought on a random whim while surfing the Sephora site.  I can’t seem to ever have enough of a product like this because for some reason I lose lip balms/glosses like no other.  Luckily, the most recent one of these that I bought is still in my possession!  (The one before that I didn’t actually lose-I left it in my car only to find it melted later in the afternoon *sigh*).

This lip balm really is nourishing.  Aside from the fact that it’s nourishing, I love that it has no color and just gives a very light clear coating over your lips, accentuating your lips natural color.

It always makes my lips feel pillowy soft and smooth.  I also use it under lip color or gloss from time to time because it helps either one of those apply smoothly and evenly without any feathering.

This is definitely an essential in my bag.

Pros:

  • Nourishing & Conditioning
  • Makes lips super soft and smooth
  • Works well under another lip gloss/color
  • Colorless

Cons:

  • Tip can break off easily (or melts if you leave it in your car in the sun….ughhh)

Bare Minerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15

bm

I loooove this foundation!  I started using it years ago and was amazed by how well it works.  I tried straying away from it a couple times only because I wanted to try different products and always ended up coming back to this one.

I have fussy skin.  I tend to get random breakouts and blemishes, which I can’t stand (obviously).  Prior to using this, I used to get them a lot more.  I found that when I would stray away from this and try other products (user cheaper ones) I would instantly start getting breakouts until I stopped using the cheap stuff.

This feels very lightweight on my skin and never looks caked on or heavy.  If you are looking for a natural looking foundation, look no further, this is it!  I can wear this stuff alone or over top of another foundation to set it.  On days when I don’t really feel like doing my makeup to the full extent, I just dust this over my face.  It covers blemishes and an uneven skin tones or imperfections.

I highly recommend this product!

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Doesn’t cause breakouts (at least not for my fussy skin)
  • Covers blemishes and imperfections
  • Evens out skin tones
  • Good selection of shades to pick from
  • Long lasting
  • SPF 15

Cons:

  • At this point….I really can’t think of any!

Sephora Favorites Draw The Line Eyeliner Sampler

line

I am a black eye liner junkie.  I’ve seen other eye liner sets for sale in the past and I normally just  don’t buy them for the point that they are normally not all black and normally have some intensely bright colors which aren’t so much for me.  So when I saw this one, I had to have it.

This 6 piece set includes (for $25.00):

  • Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Midnight Black (0.12 oz.)
  • Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Mat Black (0.025 oz.)
  • Buxom Insider Eyeliner in Black Jasper (0.007 oz.)
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (0.007 oz.)
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner  in Perversion (0.058 oz.)
  • Sephora Collection Waterproof Retractable Eyeliner in Glitter Black (0.011 oz.)

This set is extremely generous with the product for the price.  3 of the products are actually full size products which alone is valued at more than the cost of this set.  The Smashbox liner, Urban Decay liner and Sephora liner are all full sizes.

There is a variety of liquid, cream and pencil eyeliners in this set.

Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner: I’ve used this in the past and I’ve always liked it so I was excited that this came in this set in the full size.  It wears well and I find it lasts pretty much all day until I am ready to take it off.

Make Up Forever Aqua Eyeliner: I loved this one.  This was the first time I tried it and it’s one that I would buy in the full-size.  It applies smoothly and easily.

Buxom Insider Eyeliner: I liked this one as well.  I didn’t think it was one of the most amazing eyeliners I’ve ever tried but I also didn’t dislike it.  It’s not one that I would feel the need to buy in full-size.

Kat Von D Eyeliner: I surprisingly liked this eyeliner more than I thought I would.  It has a felt tip style applicator and I wasn’t sure how I would like that.  It applied well and I didn’t have any issues with it.  It delivered a nice dark black color.

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner: This one wasn’t a favorite of mine.  It has a nice thin applicator wand/brush, but the eyeliner itself wasn’t that great.  I found that I had to apply it a couple of times to get a nice black color. If I only applied it once, it didn’t seem to apply fully and left me looking kind of blotchy.  It also seemed to flake and peel off which is no good.

Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner:  This is a good one.  It applied smoothly and easily and I didn’t have any problems with it.  It delivered a nice deep black color.

Overall, I would buy this set again and for the price it’s really a steal.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • 3 full-sized products included

Cons:

  • Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip

lipI’m very picky when it comes to lip glosses so I am always on the search for ones that I really love and want to keep using.  This looked like a great opportunity for me to try out some of the most popular lip glosses Sephora had to offer and I’m glad I did because I found some that I really liked!

This 6 piece set includes (for $25.00):

  • Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment (0.08 oz.)
  • Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss in Child (0.12 oz.)
  • Bite Beauty Lip Shine in Vintage (0.1 oz.)
  • Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Baby Doll (0.1 oz.)
  • Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint in Hope (0.1 oz.)
  • Sephora Collection Glossy Gloss in Precious Pink (0.5 oz.)

Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment: Nice sheer color with a berry rose hue.  I normally like Fresh products.  It’s not my favorite though only because of the color.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice color but there are other ones in this set that I like more.

Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss in Child: This was my first time trying this product.  It is my favorite one out of all the glosses.  I love the color, Child, which is a sheer nude color.  It goes well with my skin tone and it’s not too heavy, thick or goopy.  It seems to last a while too.  This is one I would buy the full-size of.

Bite Beauty Lip Shine in Vintage: I like this one too.  This was my first time using a BITE product.  The gloss color is a sheer mauve which I like more than I thought I would.  This one also wears for a while.  It isn’t too thick, heavy or goopy for me either.

Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Baby Doll: I love this one and would buy this one in the full size as well.  I like to use this on the center of my lips over top of another color to make them appear fuller.  It has just the right amount of shine and a hint of sparkle.

Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint in Hope: I haven’t tried this one yet.  I am guessing that even though I normally love Tarte products, this one is going to be my least favorite from the set.  I feel like the color may be too pink for my liking.

Sephora Collection Glossy Gloss in Precious Pink: I’m not so crazy about this one.  The color is pretty and it has a nice subtle shimmer to it.  It is definitely high shine.  What I don’t really like about it is that it just seems to thick and goopy for me.  I wouldn’t purchase it in the full size.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Opportunity to try before buying the full-size product
  • Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment
  • Laura Mercier Lip Glace
  • Hourglass High Sheen Lip Gloss
  • Bite Beauty Lip Shine

Cons:

  • Sephora Collection Glossy Gloss (it’s not really bad–just not one that I really liked)

Sephora Favorites Glitz and Glam Party Sampler

aHere is yet another boxed set from Sephora that I couldn’t resist and had to buy….

This 9 piece set includes (for $45.00):

  • Stila Duo Shimmer Powder in Kitten (0.09 oz.)
  • Laura Mercier Baked Eye Color in Black Karat (0.018 oz.)
  • Bare Minerals Eye Color in Good Fortune (0.02 oz.)
  • Sephora by O.P.I. Nail Color in Looks Like Rain Dear (0.125 oz.)
  • Josie Maran Gogo Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara in Black (0.11 oz.)
  • Nars Body Glow (1 oz.)
  • Lorac 3D Liquid Lustre Gold (0.17 oz.)
  • Bare Escentuals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Trail Blazer (0.15 oz.)
  • Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Starfish (0.01 oz.)
  • Clutch

I like all the products in this set but there are some that I like more than others.  First off, this is a glitz and glam set so there’s a lot of shimmer and sparkle.  Personally, I do not care to shimmer and sparkle with my makeup on a daily basis.  So with that said, these aren’t items that I would wear on a daily basis.  These are items that I would wear more on for a night out or some special occasion where my regular makeup look just won’t cut it.

Stila Duo Shimmer Powder in Kitten: These shades are cute and I feel like they are not too shimmery to the point that I couldn’t get away with incorporating them into my regular makeup routine to mix it up a little here and there.

Laura Mercier Baked Eye Color in Black Karat: This can be used wet or dry.  I feel I am more inclined to use this as an eyeliner instead of an eye shadow.  Definitely not one that I would wear daily.

Bare Minerals Eye Color in Good Fortune: I really like Bare Minerals makeup and have used a lot of their eye color in the past.  I have some other shimmery shades of theirs and I tend to use them more as an eye liner than an eye shadow.  I normally will draw a very thin fine line above my lash line or overtop of black eye liner because it doesn’t look ridiculously shimmery and it gives my eyes a little pop (especially when paired up with black liner).

Sephora by O.P.I. Nail Color in It Looks Like Rain Dear: Funny gold glittery nail color.  Once again, definitely not something that I would want on my nails for a day to day look.  (It kind of screams Christmas or New Year’s to me).

Josie Maran Gogo Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara in Black: I’ve used this mascara in the past because I got it in another boxed set or as a sample from somewhere.  I normally really like Josie’s products but this is one that I would never buy the full size of.  The last tube of it that I had seemed to dry out incredibly fast.  I don’t leave the wand out or the lid loose either so I know that it didn’t dry out because I neglected to put the lid on it correctly or forgot to put the lid on period.  This one isn’t dry (yet) but it tends to go on my lashes really heavily translating into a mess because then my lashes all clump together (as does the mascara).  So this one really isn’t a winner for me.

Nars Body Glow: I love this stuff.  Not to mention, I really love the scent of it!  It just seems very beachy and tropical to me.  It gives skin the perfect glow as well.

Lorac 3D Liquid Lustre Gold: Haven’t tried this one yet so  I can’t comment on how I like yet.

Bare Escentuals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Trail Blazer: I like this.  I like the color a lot.  I tend to look lip gloss shades that are lighter and not over the top or too bright (those just don’t seem to work on me!)  This shade suits me well and the angled wand applicator makes applying the gloss easy.  It doesn’t feel too heavy, thick or goopy.  (I don’t go overboard though with applying it because I prefer a thin layer of gloss).  It has a minty taste and tingle to it.  It’s big too….it will definitely last a while.  This is something that I would use daily.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Starfish: Haven’t tried this one yet so I can’t comment on how I like it.

Clutch: The clutch is probably one of my favorite pieces to this set :)  It’s fun and shimmery and holds a good amount of makeup.  I was desperately in need of a new one.

I would recommend this set if you like a lot of shimmer and sparkle.  I like being able to try these products and have them on hand for when an occasion pops up and I want to incorporate some shimmer and sparkle into my makeup routine.  Like I said, since I wouldn’t normally wear these on a regular basis they will last me awhile and buying this set is much more practical for me than purchasing these items in their full sizes.

Pros:

  • Great set for those that want to sparkle and shine (great for a night out!)
  • Affordable
  • Opportunity to try before you buy the larger full-size products

Cons:

  • I wouldn’t wear barely any of these on a daily basis

Sephora Favorites In The Glow Set

glowI’m a sucker for Sephora’s boxed sets.  They get me every time.  I think I have purchased every box set they’ve had available over the past year that was stocked full of makeup goodies.  They always have a ton of products that I want to try and I just hate shelling out money for a full sized product that I’m not completely sure I will love.  This is by far the best way to test all the latest, greatest and hottest makeup products available without buying them separately.

This 9 piece set includes (for $45.00):

  • Benefit High Beam (0.13 oz.)
  • Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder (0.08 oz.)
  • Tarte Natural Cheek Stain in Flush (0.17 oz.)
  • Stila Convertible Color in Peony (0.07 oz.)
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Splendor (0.11 oz.)
  • Lorac Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder in Spotlight (0.106 oz.)
  • Bare Minerals All Over Face Color in Pure Radiance (0.02 oz.)
  • Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Golden Mosaic (0.14 oz.)
  • Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna (0.08 oz.)

I like all the items in this set.  I have used a few of them in the past, so I knew I already liked them.  Since it’s spring now, I like to have more of a golden glow and there’s a lot of great products in here that give me that.  Plus, I can use different ones on different days and don’t have to use the same product day in and day out.

I would definitely recommend this set….you can’t beat the price!

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Opportunity to try these items at a smaller size before buying the full size versions
  • A great assortment of name brand products

Cons:

  • They are small so they won’t last a very long time (but I knew this buying it)

Ole Henriksen Seven Skincare Sensations

abc

I’m always on the quest for the latest and greatest skin care products.  I had gotten some Ole samples in the past and liked them so I figured I would give this assortment a try.

The 7 piece set includes (for $55.00):

  • African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser (1.5 oz.)
  • Ultimate Lift Eye Gel (0.25 oz.)
  • Truth Revealed Super Cream SPF 15 (0.5 oz.)
  • Truth Serum Collagen Booster (0.5 oz.)
  • Sheer Transformation (0.5 oz.)
  • Invigorating Night Gel (0.5 oz.)
  • Walnut Complexion Scrub (0.5 oz.)

Overall, I did like this set but I liked some products more than others so I wouldn’t buy the whole kit again.

I liked the African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser.  It was very gentle on my face and it didn’t cause breakouts or upset my skin at all.  This was the largest item in the box and it actually lasted me longer than I thought it would.

I didn’t care for the Ultimate Lift Eye Gel.  I honestly don’t think it really did anything for me.  In my opinion, an eye gel or cream either works or it doesn’t.  In this case, it didn’t.

Truth Revealed Super Cream with SPF 15 was one of the products I liked more.  It was thick and creamy but blended and absorbed into my skin nicely.  It didn’t leave my skin feeling heavy or greasy and didn’t make my pores feel clogged.  I used it over top of the Truth Serum Collagen Booster.

One of my absolute favorites from this kit was the Truth Serum Collagen Booster (with Vitamin C).  This really made a difference on my skin.  I used it daily and over the course of using it my skins appearance definitely improved and looked much brighter over time.  Once I ran out of it, I didn’t purchase anymore and I definitely notice that my skin doesn’t have the same brightness (kind of dull) to it as it did when I was using this product.  I didn’t realize I liked this product as much as I did until I stopped using it.

The Sheer Transformation cream I liked but didn’t love.  There really isn’t anything wrong with it.  It’s a very lightweight cream which is nice, however, I feel like it wasn’t moisturizing enough for me.

The Invigorating Night Gel was another one that I just wasn’t crazy about.  I just don’t think it really did anything for me and I feel like it could be kind of drying.  I know that you can wear a cream over top of it, but, I don’t really want to be loading my face up with layers of product before I go to bed every night.

I loved the Walnut Complexion Scrub.  It was a great exfoliating scrub but it wasn’t overly abrasive on my skin.  It always left me feeling fresh and clean and with a dewy glow.  The smell is wonderful too.  I wish they gave you a much bigger size in this set because this definitely went the quickest for me.

I would only really consider buying the African Tea Foaming Cleanser, Walnut Complexion Scrub, Truth Serum and the Truth Revealed Super cream in full sizes.  The others just didn’t do it for me.

Pros:

  • Walnut Complexion Scrub
  • Truth Serum Collagen Booster
  • African Tea Foaming Cleanser
  • Truth Revealed Super Cream

Cons:

  • Ultimate Lift Eye Gel
  • Invigorating Night Gel
  • Sheer Transformation Cream

Tarte Clean Slate Deluxe Primer Trio

set

I’m a huge fan of this little set….and most Tarte products in general!

This was another purchase I made on a whim while browsing the pages of Sephora.  Even though I really start to like certain products, I am always up for trying new ones and thinking that I may just like them more.  I also love these smaller travel sized sets because they are great for trying out the product before shelling out all the money for the full sized product, they fit perfectly in a makeup bag or purse for touchups and of course for they are great for travel!

The set includes three pieces for $9.00:

Clean Slate Creaseless 12-hr Smoothing Eye Primer 0.09 oz.

Clean Slate Poreless 12-hr Perfecting Primer 0.25 oz.

Clean Slate Flawless 12-hr Brightening Primer 0.25 oz.

I was skeptical of the Poreless Primer when I first tried it only because I never used a primer with a consistency like this.  It’s a thick translucent primer with a waxy-like texture.  Initially, I put way too much on the first time I applied it and was having quite the time trying to get it blended on my face.  I was also put off by the waxy-like feeling as I was blending it (I was used to creamier textured primers) and was concerned that none of my makeup following this was going to apply smoothly or evenly.

I was wrong.  After applying the primer I applied the rest of my makeup and LOVED the final results!  My face was definitely poreless!  I don’t naturally have very large pores but I do have some and this concealed them perfectly.  My makeup went on overtop of this smoothly and evenly and gave me a very airbrushed looking finish.  This is definitely a favorite of mine.

The brightening primer is great too but not my favorite when compared to the poreless primer.  This one has a creamy consistency (one that I was more familiar with) so putting this on was a lot easier for me.  This definitely gave my skin a bright and fresh glow.  My other makeup went on overtop of this primer easily and smoothly.  The results were a very smooth and glowing finish.  (However this one doesn’t have the same airbrushed finish as the poreless one).

The eye primer is great as well!  I put this on before applying shadow and liner (obviously) and it seems to really hold everything in place.  Now I do find that near the end of the day the eye makeup may start to shift a little.  I wouldn’t really say it makes the 12 hour mark like they say it does.  My eye makeup definitely isn’t worn off but it starts to move a little….which I can’t stand.

Overall, I would recommend this product.  If you’ve never tried Tarte or are debating on whether you want to buy any of these products in the full size version (but haven’t tried them yet) I would suggest buying this little trio.  These are small sizes but the product in them lasts a long time and a little definitely goes a long way with these.  (I believe Sephora is all sold out but I’ve seen them elsewhere online.)

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Great to try before buying the full sized versions
  • Great for travel or touchups on the go
  • A little goes a long way
  • Poreless primer really does leave skin looking poreless and flawless
  • Brightening primer really does leave skin looking bright and fresh
  • Eye primer extends the length of eye makeup wear

Cons:

  • Doesn’t ever seem to actually last 12 hours

Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Powder Foundation SPF 20

h

I was flipping through channels one night and stumbled onto a QVC special with Josie Maran.  I’m a somewhat new fan to Josie Maran’s line of products but the ones that I have tried, I always seem to like.  So I started watching and they introduced this product.  I was pretty intrigued by it and thought it looked neat and like something I would like so I decided to give it a try and order it.  (I ordered it from Sephora though instead of QVC.)

I ordered the compact in light/medium and it seems to be a good match for me.

I tried it out and my overall impression of the product is that I like it!

When I first applied it, it looked too light for my skin and looked a little powdery.  I like it alone for less than a minute (didn’t touch or fuss over it) and let it do its thing.  Sure enough, it changed and ended up matching my skin color pretty much spot on.  Yay!

I don’t think it offers the fullest coverage though.  I had a couple small blemishes (more on the reddish side) that I was hoping to cover up with it and unfortunately, that didn’t happen.  It definitely helped to disguise them but I wouldn’t say that it completely hid them as I would have liked it to.  Now, it also could have been an operator error on my part and maybe I should have kept applying it.  However, I didn’t really think that I should be need to “cake it on” to hide the blemishes.  Oh well, I still like it!

I think my biggest dislike for this product isn’t actually the product itself but the compact that the product comes in.  I have to say that this is probably one of the cheapest compacts I have ever dealt with.  (And I’ve used a lot!)  I feel like I have gotten cheap drugstore brand compacts in the past that were of a better quality than this compact.  I’m afraid that if I ever dropped this thing it would crack and instantly break.  I feel like just opening and closing it will cause it to break if I am not careful with it.  Also, the sponge that is included is very thin and seems like it is going to wear out and crumble very quickly.  Of course, a new sponge can always be purchased to replace this thin one once it wears out.  I just feel like for $34.00 it should be of better quality.

Pros:

  • Changes to match your skin color/tune
  • Applies evenly and smoothly
  • Lightweight
  • Doesn’t look caked on or thick

Cons:

  • Cheap compact
  • Thin cheap sponge
  • Doesn’t cover blemishes completely (at least not the redder ones!)
