Sephora Collection Classic All Over Shadow Brush – Large #21

F

Ok–time to take a little breather from the endless D.I.Y. posts I’ve been making lately to do a review!

I’m really loving this all over shadow brush-so much that I use it daily!

I love the size of it because it allows me to cover large areas of my eyelids with one to two sweeps rather than having to do a bunch of applications using a small brush.  I actually love using this brush to do my eye shadow base since the base covers the largest area using one color.

The brush has firm yet soft bristles.  They are soft on my skin yet firm enough that I can build the level of shadow coverage that I desire.

I’ve washed this brush countless times too and have not had any issues with it.  The bristles haven’t frayed and haven’t been shedding either.

This one is a winner in my book :)

Pros:

  • Can cover a large area at once
  • Soft yet firm bristles
  • Great for building the level of shadow coverage you desire
  • Doesn’t shed (at least it hasn’t yet)

Sephora Collection Classic Smudge Brush #14

12345

I am obsessed with this smudge brush.  I have to admit, prior to getting this brush, I wasn’t really very educated on what a smudge brush was and I never imagined it to work like it does (amazing!).  This was $13 very well spent and I suggest everyone have this (or another) smudge brush in their makeup bag!

I wear eye shadow pretty much on a daily basis.  A lot of times I keep it relatively simple for work but when I’m doing something outside of work I like to play around with it a little more.  I recently tried a brown smoky eye look and with the help of this brush, it turned out really pretty!

A big pet peeve of mine has always been when I try to create an eye look with different shades of eye shadow (such as browns, tans and gold) and end up with harsh looking edges.  I’ve never been a fan of the harsh edges and could never really blend or fix them perfectly with any other brush or with my finger (had I only known about this smudge brush a long time ago!).  Well, this brush cured my harsh eye shadow edges and gave me a very nice blended and polished look (without the harsh edges!).

This brush is a must have for creating a smoky eye look too.  You can control the level of smudging that you want because this brush provides an excellent amount of control.  The size is small enough that you can smudge in just one specific area but not too small that you can’t smudge around the entire eye area.

This brush has been holding up well for me so far.  No bristle shedding or fraying.  It also comes with a nice snap shut plastic lid that is great for keeping the brush protected and clean.

This is a beauty brush that is a must have!  I suggest it and can’t really think of any con’s so far since I’ve started using it.

Pros:

  • Perfect for creating a smoky eye
  • Perfect for blending colors
  • Provides maximum control
  • Small enough for specific areas but not too small that you can’t smudge entire eye area
  • Plastic lid for protection
  • No bristle fraying or shedding
  • Removes harsh lines

Sephora Collection Classic Flat Liner/Eyeliner Brush #16

b

When I first started using cream eyeliner I had countless problems applying it and could never get my eyeliner to match from one eye to the next.  I always seemed to apply  more to one eye than the other or one line of eyeliner was always straighter than the other.  I purchased this brush from Sephora in hopes of being able to apply my eyeliner with more ease and precision than I seemed to be able to manage using any other standard eyeliner brush.

This brush is designed to provide an even amount of eyeliner to the lash line for uniform definition.  It also can be used to apply powder, cream or liquid eyeliner.

I use this brush to apply cream eyeliner and the first time I used it, I noticed a huge difference in the way that the eyeliner applied.  For starters, this brush is flat and wide so the area that it covers with each application is a lot larger than a standard pointed eyeliner brush.  The flat design definitely aids in producing a flat and clean line above the lash line.  It doesn’t however correct a shaky hand if you deal with that issue.  (But no brush can really fix that!)

I really don’t have any negatives to say about this brush.  I purchased it while it was on sale so that price was really good and I’ve had it for well over a year now and it has been holding up great.  I don’t use it on a daily basis and I do wash it and haven’t noticed any shedding or brush fraying.  Overall, I’m really happy with the brush.

Pros:

  • Great for beginners learning how to apply eyeliner
  • Can be used to apply liquid, cream or powder eyeliners
  • Easy to use
  • Covers more area than a standard eyeliner brush
  • Holds up well (no shedding or fraying of bristles)

Cons:

  • Has been sold out at Sephora

Sephora Collection Pro Tapered Foundation Brush #58

12

Lately, I have been getting more and more into makeup brushes and have really been working to expand my collection.

This brush was on sale at Sephora.com for $15 (regularly $32). I figured why not for the price and also figured it would be perfect to use with my new Make Up Forever liquid foundation to get in tight spaces such as around my eyes and nose.

I gave this brush a try this morning with my Make Up Forever foundation. I expected that it would probably not really blow me away and leave me with more of an average it did the job feeling. (This was my first time using a brush like this to apply liquid foundation).

I must say that I was VERY pleased with the results! It did an excellent job of getting around my eyes and nose. It applied smoothly and evenly without looking streaky or blotchy. I wouldn’t really suggest it for your whole face since it is tapered but I think that now after using it, it’s a must have for the areas I mentioned. The bristles are high-quality synthetic fibers and are firm enough to get the job done (not rock hard/firm though) and yet still soft enough that it’s comfortable to use and doesn’t make me feel like I am “poking” my face.

I’m definitely glad I added this one to my makeup brush collection.

Pros:

  • Perfect for hard to get areas (such as around the nose and eyes)
  • Firm yet soft bristles
  • Applies foundation flawlessly without streaks
  • Can be used for liquid or powder foundation

Cons:

  • Not the best option for applying foundation to larger areas

Origins No Puffery Cooling Mask for Puffy Eyes

1I have a strong love/hate relationship when it comes to eye creams and gels.  I find that they either work really well on me or they don’t do a darn thing.

If you’ve read my other posts, you’ve probably figured out that I like to try new products….even if I like a certain product, I still like to try other ones in the hopes that maybe it’ll work even better than the last one.  Eye creams and gels are never cheap so it’s always frustrating to shell out the money for one only to find out it just doesn’t work.  I’m a strong believer in the rule that what works for some people may not work for others.

Before picking this specific product, I read through a bunch of reviews and this one seemed to stand out as one of the better choices.  Also, the price tag on it wasn’t nearly as bad as some of the other ones I was looking at (This one was $23.00 for a 1 oz. tube).  Plus, I always think of eye cream/gel as something that will last a while because you’re only applying a little bit at a time to a small area.

So I went with this one and was glad I did!  The purpose of this product is to reduce puffiness from eye bags as well as to lighten dark circles.  Luckily, I normally don’t have too many issues with having dark circles around my eyes.  I do however battle eye bags from allergies or lack of sleep….or both.

This product was actually designed as an eye mask that you should wear for 10-15 minutes and then wash/wipe off.  But, it can also be used all day/night long just as you would another eye cream.  I always opted to wear it rather then wash or wipe it off.

If you’re wearing it as an eye mask you want to apply it a little more generously but if you plan on wearing it all day or night you want to apply a very thin layer sparingly.  If you apply too much and plan to wear it, you’re going to have to wipe some of it off.  It has a very thick gel consistency that has the capability of becoming very sticky and will make makeup look ridiculous on top of it if you apply too much.  (And applying sparingly means it’ll last longer!)

The product does have a cooling feeling as you apply it which feels really great.  If you’re looking for an even cooler feeling (and one that seems to make the product work that much faster/better) toss it in the freezer or the fridge for 5 minutes before your ready to apply it.  The feeling is an intense cool and I compare it to the age old remedy for curing under eye bags with two cold/frozen spoons.  This method is just MUCH easier!

I never expect results overnight or even within a couple of days.  I always figure a minimum of a week to really start seeing results when it comes to eye creams/gels.  Well, you can imagine my surprise when I actually say noticeable results in a matter of days.  I didn’t change any of my sleeping habits or start taking some type of allergy medication that would reduce the bags under my eyes…this product did that itself.

I simply applied it in the morning prior to applying my makeup and again at night before going to bed.  Like I said, dark circles aren’t normally an issue for me so I can’t really judge on how it combats those but it definitely is victorious when it comes to conquering under eye bags!

Pros:

  • Reduces under eye bags (I saw results in days)
  • Cooling effect
  • A little goes a long way

Cons:

  • Apply too much and it’ll be a sticky mess

Sephora Collection Daily Brush Cleaner

12345

I think a lot of people often forget how important it is to wash your makeup brushes.  I know in the past, I never realized the importance of washing them and I should have.  My face is extremely fussy and is prone to breakouts (unfortunately) and I know that once I started washing my makeup brushes on a regular basis it really made a difference in reducing the amount of breakouts I got.

I normally stick to this makeup brush shampoo.  It comes in a nice pump bottle.  This stuff generally lasts a decent length of time too, depending on how often you wash your brushes.  I like to wash mine weekly (on a minimum) because I use them daily and in that time they gather a lot of makeup and grime.

I was amazed the first time I used this (and honestly, I still am every time I use it) at how much makeup comes off my makeup brushes.  I can always tell when my makeup brushes need a cleaning but I never realize how much makeup and buildup is really on them.  And after seeing how much makeup and grime washes off, I understand why not washing them can cause breakouts!

This always leaves my brushes fresh, clean and soft after each wash and is a must have!

Pros:

  • Cleans makeup, residue, oils, buildup, etc. from makeup brushes
  • Helps to prevent breakouts
  • Cleans all makeup types off of brushes

Cons

  • Can’t really think of any :)

Sephora Collection Two Tone Portfolio Brush Set

123

I was going away on vacation and decided that rather than hauling a ton of individual brushes along with me that a brush set would be practical.  I wasn’t worried about having a top of the line brush set because I was going to be spending a lot of time on the beach so I wasn’t worried about having perfect makeup and also didn’t want to spend a fortune on a brush set.  So I found this set on good ol’ Sephora.com.

It features 6 essential brushes that are perfect for travel and comes with a buckle snap closure black case for $44.00.

Included in this set are the following brushes:

  • Blush brush
  • Powder/complexion brush
  • Eye shadow blending brush
  • Eye shadow detail brush
  • Concealer brush
  • Retractable lip brush

This set of brushes seemed to cover all the basics for me on a simple makeup day.  I was pleased with the set when it arrived.  It’s compact and isn’t too big or bulky.  It snaps shut nicely and doesn’t bulge out so it’s great for travel and is also a great set to toss in your purse for touchups, etc.

The only brush out of this set that I use on a daily basis is the blush brush because I still haven’t gotten around to getting a new one.  I have noticed that with daily use, this brush is starting to show some wear and getting a little worn out.  The bristles are starting to flare out a little and get a frizzy appearance.

The concealer brush was a let down and I was looking forward to using that one.  With each use, I started to notice that the bristles were moving further and further out from the brush.  Then, they started to shed excessively to the point where I was left with next to no bristles and had to toss the brush all together.

Aside from that issue and the blush brush getting worn out from daily wear, the case is still nice for travel.  The other brushes are holding up well and are not shedding.  I would say that this set is good strictly for travel only and doesn’t hold up well for day to day use over a long period of time.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Covers all the basic brush needs
  • Compact
  • Great for travel
  • Nice case

Cons:

  • Not for everyday use
  • Concealer brush didn’t last long at all

Dior Diorshow Heat CurlHeating Lash Curler

c

When this first came out I was soooo excited that I actually ordered it the day it became available.  When I got it and tried using it I was so un-excited.

It’s really hard for me to give any review on this product because it never even worked for me…..ever.

There is a little indicator light that is supposed to turn green when the lash curler heats up and is ready for use.  Well, this light never even lit up for me (and after reading other reviews, it didn’t for other people either).  I figured that maybe since this was the first time using it that it would need a little extra time to heat up.  Well, I left the thing on for at least a half hour hoping that eventually the little green light would come on…..good thing I didn’t hold my breath because it never did.

Aside from the little green light never coming on, I felt like it barely even warmed up.  I felt only the faintest touch of heat from the top of the wand (even though the little green light never came on).  I didn’t expect it to be burning hot but I expected a little bit of heat to come from it (more than I ever noticed it get at least).

I still tried to use it.  I noticed absolutely NO curl to my lashes when I used it prior to applying mascara or after applying mascara.  It did absolutely nothing.

I returned it.

Cons:

  • The whole product itself

Sephora Favorites Draw The Line Eyeliner Sampler

line

I am a black eye liner junkie.  I’ve seen other eye liner sets for sale in the past and I normally just  don’t buy them for the point that they are normally not all black and normally have some intensely bright colors which aren’t so much for me.  So when I saw this one, I had to have it.

This 6 piece set includes (for $25.00):

  • Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Midnight Black (0.12 oz.)
  • Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Mat Black (0.025 oz.)
  • Buxom Insider Eyeliner in Black Jasper (0.007 oz.)
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (0.007 oz.)
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner  in Perversion (0.058 oz.)
  • Sephora Collection Waterproof Retractable Eyeliner in Glitter Black (0.011 oz.)

This set is extremely generous with the product for the price.  3 of the products are actually full size products which alone is valued at more than the cost of this set.  The Smashbox liner, Urban Decay liner and Sephora liner are all full sizes.

There is a variety of liquid, cream and pencil eyeliners in this set.

Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner: I’ve used this in the past and I’ve always liked it so I was excited that this came in this set in the full size.  It wears well and I find it lasts pretty much all day until I am ready to take it off.

Make Up Forever Aqua Eyeliner: I loved this one.  This was the first time I tried it and it’s one that I would buy in the full-size.  It applies smoothly and easily.

Buxom Insider Eyeliner: I liked this one as well.  I didn’t think it was one of the most amazing eyeliners I’ve ever tried but I also didn’t dislike it.  It’s not one that I would feel the need to buy in full-size.

Kat Von D Eyeliner: I surprisingly liked this eyeliner more than I thought I would.  It has a felt tip style applicator and I wasn’t sure how I would like that.  It applied well and I didn’t have any issues with it.  It delivered a nice dark black color.

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner: This one wasn’t a favorite of mine.  It has a nice thin applicator wand/brush, but the eyeliner itself wasn’t that great.  I found that I had to apply it a couple of times to get a nice black color. If I only applied it once, it didn’t seem to apply fully and left me looking kind of blotchy.  It also seemed to flake and peel off which is no good.

Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner:  This is a good one.  It applied smoothly and easily and I didn’t have any problems with it.  It delivered a nice deep black color.

Overall, I would buy this set again and for the price it’s really a steal.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • 3 full-sized products included

Cons:

  • Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner
