Ways to Soothe a Sunburn

 

Aside from the common “apply aloe vera gel” to soothe a painful sunburn, here are a couple more useful and very helpful remedies that you should keep in mind when you are looking for sunburn relief!  (And better yet, most of the stuff you probably already have in your kitchen!)

  • Add 1 tsp. baking soda into a quart of cool water and apply the mixture with a washcloth to the sunburned areas
  • Apply aloe from an aloe plant
  • Apply grated potatoes to sunburned skin  (The starch from the potatoes helps to soothe and cool)
  • Add black or green tea to bathwater (or apply tea bags to affected area)
  • Apply egg whites for an instant cooling sensation
  • Apply vinegar to prevent peeling

D.I.Y. Antioxidant Cooling Skin Mist

Keep cool while refreshing skin with this antioxidant skin mist!

Ingredients:

  • 4 tsp. green tea
  • 1 oz. peppermint leaves
  • 1 cup lavender flowers
  • 2 cups distilled water
  • 2 tsp. aloe vera gel

Directions:

  • Combine the tea, peppermint leaves and lavender together in the water; steep in water for 15 minutes
  • Strain mixture with a piece of cheesecloth to remove pieces
  • Add the aloe gel to the mixture; mix well
  • Transfer the mixture to a spray bottle (store in the fridge for a very cooling spritz)

Green Tea Face Mask Recipe

Sooth red blotchy skin with this easy to make at home facial mask!

Ingredients:

  • 1 green tea bag
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. rice flour

Directions:

  • Soak tea bag in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes.
  • Add the rice flour to the water and tea and stir until consistency is smooth and paste-like
  • Apply to a clean face (avoid the eye area)
  • Let sit for 10-15 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water

Soothing Blueberry Face Mask Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. crushed blueberries
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. cucumber juice
  • 2 tbsp. baking soda
  • 2 tbsp. water

Directions:

  • Combine all ingredients; mix well
  • Apply to a clean face (avoid the eye area)
  • Let sit for 15-20 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water

An easy to make grape facial mask designed for oily skin!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. grape juice
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. mint juice

 

Directions:

  • Combine all ingredients; mix well
  • Apply a thin layer of the liquid mixture to clean face
  • Let sit for 20 minutes
  • Rinse with water

Soothing Grape and Chamomile Tea Face Mask

Soothe skin with this grape and chamomile D.I.Y. face mask that is suitable for all skin types!

Ingredients:

  • 10 grapes
  • 2 tbsp. chamomile tea
  • 2 tbsp. corn flour

Directions:

  • Mix tea and corn flour together to form a paste
  • Mash the grapes using a spoon (or fork) and add them to the paste; mix well
  • Apply to a clean face (avoid the eye area)
  • Let sit for 15 minutes
  • Rinse with water
  • Follow up with your favorite moisturizer

A delicious cocoa face mask to soothe and moisturize dry skin with sour cream that hydrates and exfoliates, honey that boosts hydration and egg white that firms skin!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp. sour cream
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1 egg white

 

Directions:

  • Combine all ingredients; mix well
  • Apply to clean face
  • Let sit on face until dry
  • Rinse with water
