Common Household Items That Double As Beauty Tools

a

Many people don’t realize that many common household items actually double as beauty products which can save you when you’re in a bind.  (Not to mention they can save you money too!)

Below is a list of some household items that can double as beauty tools.

Baking Soda = Deodorant

Deodorizes under arm odor as well as dries up sweat.  Simply pat a thin layer on your armpits and the baking soda will do the rest!

Pepto-Bismal = Facial Mask

The bismuth subsalicylate that is found in Pepto-Bismal is also commonly found in face creams.  Applying a couple teaspoons of Pepto-Bismal and leaving it on your face for 15-30 minutes leaves your face soothed and calm.

Conditioner = Shaving Cream

Conditioner works better than regular soap when it comes to shaving.  The conditioner will soften your hair which makes it easier to shave and also leaves your legs feeling super smooth and soft.

Advil Liqui-Gels = Zit Zapper

Open an Advil Liqui-Gel capsule when you have a pesky pimple and apply it to it.  The gel will instantly reduce the swelling.

Milk of Magnesia = Face Mask

Milk of Magnesia works wonders to keep your skin looking smooth, clear and youthful.  Simply apply a thin layer to your face, let dry and wash off.

Baby Powder = Shampoo

Baby powder is a cheap and simple tool at removing grease and oil from hair.  Simply massage a small amount onto your roots and give it a quick blast from your blow dryer.  This allows the powder to absorb oils leaving your hair looking clean and oil free.

Cucumber Juice & Baby Oil = Makeup Remover

Add a couple drops of cucumber juice and baby oil together to create your own makeup remover that’s quick, easy and gentle.

Olive Oil & Baby Oil = Mascara Remover

Combine a couple drops of olive oil and baby oil to create your own mascara remover.

Potato Juice & Lemon Juice = Blemish and Dark Circle Reducer

Combine a couple drops of potato juice and lemon juice and apply to blemishes or dark circles.  This mixture will help to reduce both.

Tomato Juice = Pore Reducer

Applying tomato juice to skin and leaving it on for 10-15 minutes helps to reduce the appearance of large pores.

Alterna Bamboo Silk-Sleek Brilliance Cream

Ok, so I’ve been spending a lot of time reviewing beauty products and haven’t really spent any time on hair products (which I am also obsessed with) so I figured I would spend some time today reviewing some hair products as well.

This product is amazing!  It lives up to its name and really does give you silky and frizz-free locks of hair!

I had originally gotten a small sample packet of this and decided to give it a try.  I figured that it probably wouldn’t end up being anything special that I felt the need to purchase in the full size version.  Boy was I wrong!  I rubbed a small dollop of the cream between my fingers and applied it to my hair.  It glided on so smoothly and effortlessly and my hair actually felt like silk while I was applying it.  It also worked to detangle and smooth my hair, banishing any signs of frizz.

Something else that I really love about this product is that it is very lightweight.  A lot of hair products state that they are lightweight and won’t weigh hair down, but I find that few actually live up to that.  This product actually does.  My hair doesn’t feel the slightest bit weighed down or heavy.  It also doesn’t feel like there is a layer of product buildup either.

The tube is 4.2 oz. and retails for $24.00.  Somewhat pricey, but, it lasts a long time because you really only need a very small amount each time you use it.  I’ve had mine for a couple of months now and still have plenty left.

This definitely ranks as my favorite day to day hair styling cream!

Pros:

  • Leaves hair feeling silky and smooth
  • Tames frizz
  • Doesn’t weigh hair down
  • Doesn’t leave hair with a layer of product buildup
  • Long lasting

Cons:

  • Somewhat pricey
